Sandro Botticelli: A Painter from Florence

Hello! My name is Sandro, but most people know me as Botticelli. I was born in a beautiful city called Florence, in Italy, around the year 1445. My nickname, Botticelli, means 'little barrel'! Growing up, Florence was buzzing with artists, and I loved to draw and create things more than anything.

When I was a boy, I first learned how to work with gold, but my heart was set on painting. So, around the year 1464, I became a student of a wonderful painter named Fra Filippo Lippi. He taught me how to mix colors and paint graceful, flowing lines. By 1470, I had my very own art studio where I could paint all day long! Soon, a very important family in Florence, the Medici family, noticed my work and asked me to paint many pictures for their grand homes.

I loved painting stories from old myths. Around 1482, I painted one of my most famous works, 'Primavera,' which is like a beautiful party in a garden to celebrate spring. A few years later, around 1486, I painted another famous one you might know: 'The Birth of Venus.' It shows the goddess Venus floating to shore on a giant seashell! I even got to travel to the city of Rome in 1481 to help paint pictures on the walls of a very famous building called the Sistine Chapel.

I filled my life with art and painting, and I lived to be about 65 years old. For a long time after I was gone, my paintings were not as famous. But then, people rediscovered them and fell in love with their beauty all over again. Today, my paintings hang in museums, and people from all over the world come to see the magical stories I told with my brush. I am so happy that my art still brings joy to people so many years later.
