Sarojini Naidu: The Nightingale of India

Hello! My name is Sarojini Naidu. When I was a little girl, I lived in a country called India. I loved words and songs more than anything. I wrote poems about the shiny stars in the night sky, the colorful flowers in the garden, and the busy markets in my town. People thought my poems were so beautiful that they sounded like a bird singing a happy song. Because of this, they gave me a very special name: the 'Nightingale of India'.

I loved my country, India, very much, and I wanted everyone who lived there to be free and happy. I saw that some things were not fair for people, so I decided to use my big voice to help. I traveled all over my country and gave speeches. In my speeches, I told everyone that we should work together with kindness to make India a better place for every single person. I became good friends with another important helper named Mahatma Gandhi, and we both worked very hard for our country's freedom.

After many years of helping, I was given a very important job. In the year 1947, I became the first woman to be a governor in India! My job was to help take care of many, many people. I was happy to show everyone that women can be great leaders. I lived to be 70 years old. Today, people still remember my poems and all the work I did to help my country. I hope my story shows you that your voice, whether you use it to sing a song or to speak kind words, is powerful and can be used to spread love and help others.
