Hello, my name is Solon. I lived in a wonderful city called Athens a very, very long time ago. The sun was warm, and the buildings were beautiful. I loved my home and I loved all the people who lived there with me. My biggest wish was to help everyone in my city feel happy and safe. I always looked for ways to be a good helper.
Some of my friends and neighbors in Athens were very sad. They owed money that they could not pay back. Because of this, some were losing their homes, and that did not feel fair to me at all. I knew I had to do something to help them. So, I made a very special new rule for everyone. My new rule said that they did not have to pay that money back anymore. It was like getting a fresh start! This made so many people feel happy and hopeful again.
I made even more new rules, which are called laws, to make sure everyone in Athens was treated with kindness. My laws were for everybody, not just for the people who had a lot of money. These rules helped everyone live together more peacefully, like good friends should. I lived a long life, and I was so happy that I could help my city. Today, people remember me for creating fair rules that helped everyone have a voice.
