Hello! My name is Tarsila, and I am a painter. When I was a little girl, I grew up on a big, beautiful farm in a country called Brazil. I loved all the bright colors I saw there! I saw sunny yellow mangoes, bright blue skies, and big green leaves. I loved the animals, the people, and all the stories they told. These happy colors and memories stayed in my heart.
When I grew up, I sailed on a big ship to a city called Paris to learn how to paint. I learned so much, but I missed my home in Brazil. I missed the bright sun and all the special colors. So, I decided to paint what I remembered and loved. I painted pictures with round shapes and happy colors that looked like my home. I even painted a funny picture of a person with a giant foot to make my friend smile! I called it 'Abaporu', which was a special name from a story.
I wanted everyone to see how wonderful Brazil was. My paintings were like a big, colorful hug from my home. I lived to be 86 years old, and I painted for my whole life. Today, people all over the world can see my paintings in museums and remember the beautiful colors and stories of Brazil that I loved to share.
