Just want Thucydides?
Hello. My name is Thucydides, and I lived a very long time ago in a place called ancient Greece. I was born in the powerful city of Athens around the year 460 BCE. My family was wealthy, which was a good thing because it meant I could get a wonderful education. I was able to spend my time learning all about the world around me. This helped me grow up to be very curious and want to understand why things happened the way they did.
When I was a grown-up, a very big war started in the year 431 BCE. This war was between my home city of Athens and another strong city called Sparta. We now call this the Peloponnesian War. Because I wanted to help protect my home, I became a general in the Athenian army. In 424 BCE, I was given a very important job. I had to lead my soldiers to protect the city of Amphipolis from the Spartans. But I did not get there in time, and the Spartan army captured the city. It was a very difficult day for Athens and for me.
Because I couldn't save the city, the leaders of Athens were very upset with me. They decided to send me away from my home for 20 years. This is called being in exile. I was sad to leave Athens, but I decided to use my time to do something important. I would write the true story of the Peloponnesian War. I traveled to different places and talked to soldiers from both the Athenian and the Spartan sides. I wanted to find out exactly what happened and why. I made sure to write down only the facts and did not add in any stories about gods or monsters like other writers did.

My book is called the 'History of the Peloponnesian War.' I wanted to write it so that people in the future could understand how wars happen and maybe learn from the past. I lived to be about 60 years old. Today, people call me the 'father of scientific history' because I showed everyone how important it is to use facts and evidence to tell a true story. My work helps us understand that knowing what truly happened is the best way to learn.
