The story

A Story About William James

Hello. My name is William James. I was born on a chilly day, January 11th, in the year 1842. I grew up in a big, busy place called New York City. Even when I was a little boy, I loved to look around and wonder about things. I had so many questions. I wanted to know how everything worked and why people felt the way they did.

When I grew up, I became a teacher. Around the year 1872, I started teaching at a big school called Harvard University. I loved helping my students. We would talk about their feelings and all the big ideas in their heads. In 1890, I wrote a very important book called 'The Principles of Psychology'. I wrote it so I could share my ideas about thinking and feeling with everyone in the whole world.

I had a special idea I want to share with you. I believed that our thoughts are like little helpers. If we think happy and kind thoughts, they can help us do happy and kind things. Thinking good thoughts is a wonderful way to help make the world a better place for everyone.

I lived to be 68 years old, and my life ended in the year 1910. People still remember me today for all my big ideas about how our minds work. They remember that I wanted to help everyone think in ways that are helpful and kind to others.
