Do you have a secret? Maybe it's a special drawing you made or a funny story you thought of that you want to keep all to yourself. You might hide it in a special box or a secret drawer. But what if your secrets are on a computer or a tablet? Who keeps them safe there? That’s me. I am the invisible force that protects those secrets when they are digital. I’m like a friendly guard for your online treasures, from photos of your family’s vacation to your high score in your favorite game. I make sure that only the right people can see your special things. I am your computer's best friend and secret keeper, always watching to make sure everything is okay, even when you can't see me.

Have you guessed who I am? Hello. I'm Cybersecurity. My story began a long time ago, when computers were just learning how to talk to each other on a special network called ARPANET in the 1960s. At first, everything was friendly. But in 1971, a programmer named Bob Thomas created a little program he called Creeper. Creeper wasn't mean. It just liked to travel. It would hop from one computer to another and leave a message that said, 'I'M THE CREEPER: CATCH ME IF YOU CAN.'. It was like a game, but it showed everyone that digital information could be messed with. So, another programmer named Ray Tomlinson built a hero program called Reaper. Reaper's only job was to chase Creeper through the network and delete it. This was one of my very first jobs: to be the good guy who protects information.

As more and more computers got connected, I had to get stronger. A big lesson came on November 2nd, 1988. A computer program called the Morris Worm spread across the internet by accident. It wasn't designed to be harmful, but it had a little mistake in its code. It copied itself so many times that it was like a huge traffic jam. Thousands of computers slowed down and felt very sleepy because they were too busy dealing with the worm. This big 'oops' moment showed everyone how important it was to build strong digital fences and locks. This event helped me grow up and become the strong protector I am today, always learning from mistakes to keep you safer.

So who am I today? I am the secret password you create to unlock your tablet, making sure only you can get inside. I am the little lock symbol you see in the corner of a website that tells you it’s a safe place to play and learn. I work quietly to guard your family photos and your amazing digital drawings from anyone who isn't supposed to see them. I am here to make sure the wonderful world of the internet stays a fun, creative, and safe place for you to explore. Think of me as your digital guardian angel, always on watch so you can have a great time online, worry-free.
