I am a little whisper of a story, told when you are snuggled up and cozy. I am not a story you read in a book at first. I am the tale of a talking wolf, a clever rabbit, or a princess who saves the day. I am told around a warm fire or right before you go to sleep, making you giggle or dream of big adventures. I am a little bit of magic that you can hold in your heart and share with a friend. I am a story that floats on the air from one person to another.

I have been traveling for a very, very long time, even before there were lots of books. Grandmas told me to their grandchildren, and then those grandchildren grew up and told me to their own. In a sunny place called India, a long, long time ago, I became stories about smart animals to teach children how to be good friends. Much later, two brothers in Germany named Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm worried I might get lost. They traveled all over, listening to people tell my stories. They carefully wrote me down in a big book for everyone to share. That’s when many people met me. I am Folktales.

Today, you can find me everywhere. I live in your colorful picture books, in fun movies, and in the stories you still tell each other. I help you learn about being kind, brave, and smart. When you hear a story about a tricky coyote or a kind fairy, you are hearing a voice from long ago. My stories connect you to people all over the world. I am a special gift from the past, and the best part is, you can keep sharing me and add your own sparkle to my magic.
