The Tiny Team That Builds Everything
Hello. I'm super, super small—so tiny you can't see me. But I'm everywhere. I'm in the yummy juice you drink and the air you breathe. I'm even in the chair you're sitting on. Think of me as a tiny team of building blocks, all holding hands to make everything in the world. I am so small, but I am so important. I help make your toys, your food, and even you. I am a happy little helper, working with my friends to build big things from tiny pieces.
For a long, long time, people wondered what everything was made of. They looked at the big trees and the fluffy clouds and asked, 'What is all this stuff?'. Way back in a sunny place called ancient Greece, around the 5th century BCE, some very smart thinkers guessed that the world was built from tiny bits they couldn't see. It was a big secret for a long, long time. Much later, a scientist named Amedeo Avogadro helped everyone understand me better. In the year 1811, he gave me my official name: Molecule. Isn't that a fun word? He explained that my building block friends are called atoms, and I'm what you get when they stick together, like holding hands in a circle.
When lots of my molecule friends and I get together, we make amazing things. Water molecules hold hands to fill your bathtub for a splashy, bubbly bath. Sugar molecules team up to make your cookies sweet and yummy. The molecules in a bright flower float into the air to make a lovely smell for your nose to sniff. I am the secret builder of your wonderful world. Everything you see, touch, and taste is a giant party of molecules like me, all working together to make your day happy and fun.
