The story

A Fairytale Made of Stone

I am made of beautiful, grand buildings. I have giant, round roofs that look like big white bubbles, and tall, skinny towers that reach for the sun. I love to be surrounded by green gardens with sparkling fountains and colorful flowers. My walls are decorated with pretty patterns that look like jewels. They shine and shimmer when the sun touches them. I stand big and strong, and I love when happy people walk through my halls and gardens. Can you guess what I am.

Hello. I am Mughal Architecture. I was born a long, long time ago, in the 16th century, in a warm, wonderful land that is now India and Pakistan. Great rulers called Mughal emperors wanted to build the most amazing palaces, forts, and tombs in the world. An emperor named Akbar loved to build with strong, red stone, making big, safe forts. But the most famous building was made by another emperor named Shah Jahan. He was so sad when his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, died. He missed her very much. He wanted to build a beautiful white palace for her to rest in forever. It is called the Taj Mahal, and it was finished around the year 1653. It is like a giant, beautiful love letter made of stone.

Today, my lovely buildings are still standing tall. People from all over the world come to visit and see my sparkly white marble and my big, round domes. Little kids run in my gardens and watch the water splash in the fountains. I show everyone that love and imagination can create something beautiful that lasts for hundreds and hundreds of years. I am a fairytale made of stone, and I hope I make you dream of building something wonderful, too. Maybe you can build something beautiful with your blocks today.
