The story

I Am Pop Art!

Have you ever seen a painting of a yummy soup can? Or a giant picture that looks just like your favorite comic book, with big, bright colors? That’s me. I love to take everyday things—like snacks from the kitchen or characters from a cartoon—and turn them into something super special and exciting. I make things POP with color. I am bright and loud and so much fun. I am like a big, happy surprise for your eyes.

Hello. My name is Pop Art. I was born a long, long time ago, in the 1950s. That was when your grandparents might have been little kids. Some friendly people called artists, in places called the United Kingdom and the United States, had a big, bright idea. They thought, 'Why can't art be about the things we see all the time?'. An artist named Andy Warhol loved to paint colorful pictures of soup cans. He painted them in every color of the rainbow. Another artist, Roy Lichtenstein, made huge paintings that looked just like your favorite comic books. They had fun words like 'POW.' and 'WHAAM.'. They used colors as bright as sunshine and made art feel like a big, happy party.

I showed everyone that art isn't just for quiet, sleepy places. Art can be fun. Art can be silly. Art can be about anything you love. It can be a picture of your favorite cereal box, a shiny new toy, or even a movie star. I help you see that even the little things you see every day are beautiful and special. So next time you see something you like, imagine it as a big, colorful painting. With me, Pop Art, you can find art all around you, because art is for everyone to enjoy.
