The Spirit of the Samurai
Hello. I am a secret helper from a long, long time ago. I lived in a beautiful country called Japan. I wore special, strong clothes to keep me safe, and I promised to protect good people. My clothes were shiny and strong, like a beetle’s shell. I followed important rules about being brave, kind, and always doing the right thing. It was my special promise. Can you guess who I am?
I am the Samurai. My story began over a thousand years ago, when there were big castles and beautiful gardens in Japan. My job was to serve special leaders and keep everyone safe and happy. I practiced being very strong and followed a special code of honor called Bushidō. It was a list of rules that taught me to be loyal to my friends and brave in everything I did. I carried a special, shiny sword called a katana, which was a symbol of my promise to be honorable and good.
My job as a warrior in Japan ended a long, long time ago, around the year 1868. But my spirit of helping others never went away. Today, you can see stories about me in colorful books and fun cartoons. They remind everyone how important it is to be brave, kind, and fair. You can have the spirit of a samurai, too, whenever you help someone who is sad or stand up for what is right. It is a warm, strong feeling in your heart.
