The Story of Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?
Hello. My pages are so bright and colorful. When you open me, you can feel them crinkle just a little bit. On my very first page, there is a big, friendly animal. He is furry and brown and has a happy smile. Inside, I play a fun game. I ask a question, and you turn the page to find the answer. It’s a game of looking and seeing. Do you know who I am? I am the book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?.
Two wonderful friends made me. Their names were Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle. A long time ago, in the year 1967, they worked together to bring me to life. Bill wrote the bouncy, rhyming words that are so fun to say. Tap-tap-tap went his pen. Eric made all my beautiful animal friends. He didn't just use crayons. He painted big sheets of paper with bright colors, then he cut them up and pasted them together to make each animal. He made a red bird, a yellow duck, and a blue horse. They wanted me to be a happy book that helps little children learn their colors and animals while playing a game.
For many, many years, children just like you have loved me. They chant my words out loud: 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?'. They point to my bright pictures with their little fingers. My job is to make reading feel like a happy game, full of color and fun surprises. I am your friend on the bookshelf. I am always waiting for you to open my pages and explore my colorful world. I love sharing my animal friends with you and asking my favorite question, ready to make you smile every single time.
