Just want Ebru?
Have you ever imagined what it would be like to be a floating rainbow. I have. I begin as tiny drops of color, plopping gently onto a special, thick water that feels like a cozy blanket. I don't sink or mix. Instead, I spread out in beautiful circles, like flowers opening in the sun. An artist, my special friend, takes a tool that looks like a comb and pulls it softly across the water. Whoosh. Suddenly, I have stripes like a zebra. Then, with a thin needle, they draw a delicate line, and my stripes turn into elegant feathers or puffy white clouds floating in a blue sky. It’s a quiet, wonderful dance of red, yellow, and blue. I am the art of Ebru, the dance of paint on water.
My story started a very, very long time ago, over 500 years ago, around the 15th century. I was born in a faraway place called the Ottoman Empire, which is now the country of Turkey. The special artists who learned my secrets were called 'ebruzen'. They were very patient and knew just how to help me dance on the water. They created me for a very important reason. I was used to make the covers of books look magnificent and to decorate the edges of important papers. Because every single pattern I make is completely different and one-of-a-kind, I was also like a secret guard. My unique designs helped keep documents safe because no one could copy them exactly. Later, in the 17th century, I went on a big adventure along a famous trading route called the Silk Road, all the way to Europe. People there had never seen anything like me, and they called me 'Turkish paper'.

Today, my journey continues. People all over the world, including children just like you, still love to create with me. The most magical part is the big surprise at the end. When a piece of paper is laid gently on top of me and then lifted away, my beautiful, watery dance is captured forever. You never know exactly what amazing design you will see. It’s a secret shared between you, the water, and the colors. I am more than just pretty art on paper. I am a moment of wonder, a happy surprise, and a special way for you to connect with artists from the past. When you make me, you are reminding the world that everyone has something unique and magical inside them, waiting to be shared.
