The story

The Stone Lion's Secret

Hello there. I rest in a warm, sunny place with sand all around me. My paws are very big, like little cars. My body is strong like a lion, but my face is a person's face. I have watched the sun come up and go down for a long, long time. I am a giant stone friend waiting for you in Egypt. Do you know my name. I am the Great Sphinx of Giza. I have a secret to tell you.

A very, very long time ago, a great king named Pharaoh Khafre wanted a special guardian. He wanted me to watch over his big, pointy pyramid home. So, around the year 2500 BCE, workers came to help me wake up. They did not build me with blocks. Oh, no. I was already here, sleeping inside one giant piece of rock. With their tools, they chipped and tapped, tap, tap, tap. They carved my strong lion body and my calm, kind face. I was born from the stone.

For thousands of years, I have stayed right here in my sunny spot. I watch the stars at night and the sun in the day. Sometimes, the wind blows and covers me with a big blanket of sand. But friends always come to gently brush the sand away. Today, friends from all over the world come to visit me. They take pictures and wave hello. I am a forever friend, here to remind everyone to be strong like a lion and patient like the desert sand. I love sharing my stories without ever saying a word.
