Perseverance Rover

Whee. I floated through the quiet, dark space. It was so peaceful. All around me, tiny, sparkly stars blinked hello. I was on a very, very long trip, all by myself, but I was not lonely. I was too excited. I was going to a special place. As I got closer, I saw it. It was a big, round ball, the color of red sand and dusty rocks. It looked so beautiful and new. I wondered what adventures were waiting for me down there on that bright, red world. The trip was long, but my new home was almost here.

Hello there. I am the Perseverance Rover, but you can call me Percy. I am a robot explorer. Very smart and kind scientists at a place called NASA built me. They gave me everything I needed for my big trip. They put me on a giant rocket that flew me into space on July 30th, 2020. After my long, quiet journey, I landed so softly on the red planet. That special day was February 18th, 2021. My new home is called Mars. I have six strong wheels to help me roll over bumpy red rocks. I have special camera eyes to see everything around me, and I even brought a little friend. My friend is a small helicopter named Ingenuity, who can fly up high in the sky.

My job on Mars is the best adventure ever. Every day, I roll around and explore this big red world. I look very closely at interesting rocks and I take lots of pictures. Click, click. I send all my pictures back to my friends on Earth so they can see Mars, too. I am looking for tiny clues in the rocks to see if anything ever lived here a long, long time ago. Exploring helps us learn and dream big dreams. I will stay here on Mars, rolling and discovering new things, and I hope you keep wondering and exploring, too.
