The story

The Story of the Teddy Bear

Hello. I have soft, fuzzy fur and two shiny button eyes. My nose is small, and my tummy is squishy, just right for hugging. I sit on cozy beds and toy shelves, waiting for a friend. I am very good at listening to secrets. Do you know what I am? I am a Teddy Bear, and I have a wonderful story to share with you.

My story began a long, long time ago, in the year 1902. There was a very important and kind man named Theodore Roosevelt. Everyone called him 'Teddy' for short. One day, he was kind to a little bear cub, and a picture of it was put in the newspaper for everyone to see. A toy maker named Morris Michtom and his wife, Rose, saw that picture. They had a brilliant idea. They stitched and stuffed and made me with lots of love. They called me 'Teddy's Bear' after the kind man.

Soon, children everywhere wanted a cuddly friend just like me. I traveled across the world, sitting in shop windows and waiting for a child to take me home. I am a keeper of secrets and a partner in all your fun adventures. I am also the best hugger when you feel sad. Even though I was created over a hundred years ago, my job is still the same. I am here to be your warm, fuzzy friend, ready for a snuggle whenever you need one.
