My Dream for Cuba
Hello, my name is Fidel Castro, and I want to tell you a story about my home, the beautiful island of Cuba. I loved Cuba with all my heart. It was a place with sunny skies, green fields of sugarcane, and sparkling blue water. But when I looked around, I also felt a deep sadness. I saw that many Cuban people were very poor. They worked hard but didn't have enough food. Many children couldn't go to school to learn how to read and write, and if someone got sick, there were not enough doctors to help them feel better. At that time, our country's leader was a man named Fulgencio Batista. I believed he was not taking care of everyone fairly. My friends and I knew that something had to change. We dreamed of a Cuba where every person had a chance to be healthy and happy.
That dream gave me and my friends a lot of courage. I gathered with brave people, like my friend Che Guevara, who also believed we could make Cuba a better place for everyone. We decided to go into the big, green mountains called the Sierra Maestra to make our plan. It was hard living in the mountains, but we were like a big family, sharing everything we had and talking about our hopes for the future. More and more people from the villages heard about our dream and started to help us. They brought us food and shared stories, and our group grew stronger every day. We all worked together for a long time. Then, on a very special day, January 1st, 1959, Fulgencio Batista left Cuba. It was a moment of great excitement. Our dream was finally coming true. We came down from the mountains, and people cheered in the streets. We were ready to start building a new Cuba.
After that day, a feeling of hope filled the air all across our island. The happy cheers of the people gave us strength to begin our work right away. The first things we wanted to do were the most important for helping everyone. We started building brand new schools all over the country. We wanted every single child to have the chance to learn and dream about their own future. We also opened new clinics in towns and villages. This meant that if anyone, whether they were rich or poor, felt sick, they could go to a doctor and get the care they needed. It was the beginning of a big change for Cuba. My story shows that when people work together with a shared dream of fairness, they can help make their home a better place for everyone.
