Fidel's Big Promise for Cuba

Hello, my name is Fidel Castro. I lived on a beautiful, sunny island called Cuba. The ocean sparkled all around us, and tall palm trees swayed in the warm breeze. I loved my home very much. But I was sad because many of my friends were sad, too. The man in charge, whose name was Batista, was not being very fair. Some people did not have enough yummy food to eat. Other people did not have cozy houses to live in. This did not feel right. I knew, deep in my heart, that I wanted to help everyone. I wanted all the people of Cuba to be happy and have everything they needed.

So, I talked to my good friends. One of my best friends was named Che. I said, 'Let's go help our people.'. Together, we went on a big adventure through the tall green mountains of Cuba. We walked for a very long time. Along the way, we met so many people and gave them a big promise. We promised to make our home a fair and happy place for everyone. After our long journey, we arrived in the big city of Havana. It was January 8th, 1959. Everyone was so happy to see us. They cheered and waved. It felt like the biggest, happiest party in the whole world.

After the big celebration, it was time to get to work. We kept our big promise. We started building brand new schools so all the children could learn to read and write. We also made sure there were kind doctors and nurses to help anyone who felt sick. It made me so happy to see everyone smiling and helping each other. When we all work together, we can make the world a much kinder and fairer place for our friends and our families.
