The story

My Wish for a Peaceful Land

Hello. My name is Tokugawa Ieyasu. A long, long time ago, the country of Japan was very noisy. There was a lot of fighting. It was like friends who forgot how to share and were always arguing. Boom. Crash. It was not a happy sound. I saw all the fighting, and it made me feel sad. I had a very big wish in my heart. I wished for everyone to stop fighting and be friends. I wanted all the people to put down their swords and build happy homes together. I dreamed of a land where everyone could be safe and play and laugh under the warm sun. It was time for a big change. It was time for peace.

And guess what. My wish started to come true. In the year 1603, I became the leader. My special leader name was 'shogun'. Being the shogun meant I could help everyone work together. My first big idea was to build a brand-new city for everyone to live in peacefully. We called our new city Edo. It was so exciting. We built a big, strong castle right in the middle to keep everyone safe. Then we built houses, and more houses, and more houses. Soon, our city was bustling and busy. People came from all over Japan to live in our happy city. Artists came to paint beautiful pictures. Shopkeepers came to sell yummy snacks and colorful toys. The markets were full of friendly faces and delicious smells. We made new rules so that everyone would be kind to each other. Edo was a city built on friendship and fun, a place where everyone belonged.

The peaceful time we started was called the Edo Period. It was like a long, long, sunny day that lasted for many years. Because everyone felt safe and happy, they had time to create amazing things like beautiful paintings and funny poems. People learned so much and made our country a wonderful place. I grew old and passed away, but the peace we built together lasted for a very, very long time. It shows that when we choose to be kind and work together, we can make the world a beautiful and happy home for everyone.
