The story

Elara's Forever Home

Hello. My name is Elara. A long, long time ago, my family was always walking. We walked and walked all day long. We looked for yummy red berries to eat. We searched for crunchy nuts under the big trees. My feet would get so tired. Sometimes I would wish we had just one cozy place to sleep every night. I wanted a forever home where we could stay and play. But we always had to keep walking to find our next meal. It was a life of moving, always moving, from one place to the next.

One day, I dropped a tiny seed from my snack. I forgot all about it. But when we came back that way much later, I saw something amazing. A little green plant was growing right where I dropped my seed. It was magic. This gave my family a big idea. What if we planted lots of seeds on purpose. We could grow our very own food. We found a perfect spot near a sparkly river. The dirt was soft and dark. My papa poked little holes in the ground with a stick. My mama and I carefully dropped tiny seeds into each hole. We covered them up and gave them a drink of water from the river. We were so excited to see what would happen.

We waited and watched. Soon, little green sprouts popped up. They grew bigger and bigger, and soon we had lots of yummy food to eat. I was so happy. We didn't have to wander anymore. My family built a strong house with mud and sticks right by our garden. Soon, other families saw our wonderful home. They came and built their own houses next to ours. We made the very first village. By learning to be farmers, we learned how to build a wonderful home and a happy neighborhood, all together.
