The story

I Am Easter

Hello! I am the holiday Easter. For Christians all over the world, I am a very important and joyful day. My celebration is about their belief that their leader, Jesus Christ, came back to life after he died. Christians call this event the Resurrection. The story of the Resurrection is a powerful symbol of new life and hope. It reminds people that even after a dark or difficult time, a new and wonderful beginning is possible. Because of this meaning, my observance is one of the most significant in the Christian faith.

Have you ever noticed that I don't arrive on the same date every year? Sometimes people observe me in March, and other years I come in April. That is because I am known as a “movable” holiday. My date isn’t fixed on the calendar like a birthday. Instead, my timing is connected to the seasons and the moon. People celebrate me on the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring. This special way of finding my date means I am always a springtime holiday, arriving when the world outside is waking up from its long winter sleep.

Because I happen in the spring, many of my symbols are about new beginnings. In springtime, flowers begin to bloom, the grass turns green, and many baby animals are born. One of my most popular symbols is the egg. For a very long time, people have seen eggs as a sign of new life, because a baby chick hatches from inside. For Christians, the egg is also a special symbol of the Resurrection, representing the empty tomb after Jesus came back to life. You might also see other happy signs of the season, such as fluffy baby chicks, gentle lambs, and bouquets of fresh flowers.

Over the years, some of my traditions have developed just for fun and to celebrate the season. One of the most famous stories is about the Easter Bunny. This tale of a friendly rabbit who brings baskets filled with colorful eggs and candy to children first came from Germany a long time ago. The story became very popular, and the Easter Bunny is now a well-known part of my celebration in many places. Many people also have a wonderful time preparing for my arrival. Families and friends might gather to decorate eggs, dipping them in dye to create beautiful colors and patterns. Then, they might have an egg hunt, where children search for the hidden eggs in a yard or park.

Today, people observe me in many different ways. For Christians, I am a time of deep religious meaning, often marked by special church services. For many other people, I am a happy festival that welcomes the spring. They enjoy my cheerful customs, like sharing special meals with family, giving baskets of treats, and watching children hunt for colorful eggs. Whether it is a day of faith or a celebration of the season, I am a time of hope and new beginnings for all who observe me.
