The story

The Story of the Chariot

Hello. I am a chariot. I have two big wheels and a little floor for you to stand on. A long, long time ago, people walked everywhere. Plod, plod, plod. It was so slow. Or they used big, slow wagons that went creak, creak, creak. Then, I was made. I was made to go fast. I was made to go whoosh, just like the wind. I was so excited to help people fly across the land.

My story began a very, very long time ago. It was around the year 3000 BCE in a warm, sunny place called Mesopotamia. Some very clever people had a wonderful idea. They took two big, round wheels and put them on a little floorboard. They added a special handle to hold on tight. Then, they asked some strong, friendly horses to help. The horses said yes. They pulled me, and for the first time, I rolled. Whoosh. The ground zipped by so fast. The wind tickled my wooden frame. I felt like I was flying. It was the best feeling ever. I loved making that big whooshing sound as I raced along the ground. It was my favorite thing to do.

Soon, I had many important jobs. I got to carry kings and queens who waved to everyone as we rolled by. I also got to be in fun races. Zoom. We would race to see who was the fastest of all. I was like the very first fast car. Before me, everything was slow. I helped people visit their friends in other towns. I helped them see new places. The idea of going fast, my idea, is still helping you today. It helped create fast cars, speedy trains, and even airplanes that fly in the sky.
