The story

Excalibur: The Sword in the Lake

Hello. My name is Excalibur. I am a sword that shines like the sun. I sparkle and gleam. For a very, very long time, I slept deep under the cool, shimmery water. My home was a secret, misty lake. I was waiting for someone special to find me. Not just anyone could be my friend. I was waiting for a true and kind king. A king with a good heart. He would be my partner in great adventures. This is my story, a wonderful legend you might have heard of. It is the story of King Arthur.

One day, a wise man named Merlin came to my lake. He brought a young man named Arthur. A magical lady who lives in the water, my dear friend, lifted her arm up, up, up from the lake. And in her hand, she held me for all to see. I sparkled in the bright sun. Sparkle, sparkle, sparkle. She gave me to Arthur. He was gentle and he was brave. When he held my handle, I began to glow with happiness. I knew he was the one. In his hands, I felt so strong and bright. I was ready for big adventures. Arthur promised to be a good king. He promised to use my strength to help people and build a happy, peaceful home called Camelot.

Together, Arthur and I went on so many exciting journeys. We helped our friends and we kept everyone safe. People loved to tell our story. They told it around warm, crackling fires, and they still do today. They drew pictures of me and Arthur. They sang happy songs about our courage and our kindness. Even today, when you read a book or watch a movie about a hero with a magical sword, you might see a little sparkle of me. Our story helps everyone imagine being brave and kind. It reminds us that the very best magic is found right inside a good heart.
