Just want Excalibur?
I am a whisper in the water, a flash of silver light beneath the still surface of a hidden lake. My name is Excalibur, and for centuries I slept in the cool, quiet depths, waiting for a hand worthy enough to wield me. My story is a famous one, a tale of magic, kings, and destiny; it is the myth of Excalibur. Long ago, the land of Britain was a place of conflict, with lords and kings fighting for power. A wise wizard named Merlin knew the land needed one true king to unite everyone under a single banner of peace. Many people know the story of a sword pulled from a stone, an event that proved a young boy named Arthur was the rightful heir to the throne. But that was a different sword, a simple test of his birthright. I was something more. I was the sword that would test his heart and his soul, the blade that would not just make him a king, but would make him a legend. My purpose was not just to prove who he was, but to show the world what he could become.
After Arthur became king, his first sword was broken in a fight. Merlin brought him to the misty edge of my lake, a place shimmering with ancient magic. As the sun broke through the fog, a wondrous sight appeared: an arm, clothed in shimmering white silk, rose from the center of the water, holding me high for all to see. Can you imagine such a sight? I am forged with enchantments, my blade so keen it can slice through steel armor as if it were paper, and my crossguard glitters with jewels that seem to hold starlight within them. Arthur, guided by the mysterious Lady of the Lake who is my guardian, took a small boat and rowed out onto the glassy water. His heart was pure and his intentions were noble. When his hand finally closed around my hilt, it was a perfect fit, as if I had been made for him alone. In that moment, a current of energy passed between us. I knew then that my destiny was with his. I was not just a weapon; I was a symbol of his solemn promise to rule with justice and fairness. I also came with a magical scabbard, a sheath that protected whoever wore it from any harm. With me at his side, King Arthur won many great battles, not through brute force, but through courage, wisdom, and the loyalty he inspired. He created the shining kingdom of Camelot and gathered the bravest and most noble knights to sit at his Round Table, where everyone’s voice was heard and valued as an equal.

Years passed, and Camelot was a golden kingdom, a beacon of peace and honor in a troubled world. But even the brightest day must end, and shadows can fall on even the most splendid of kingdoms. A terrible battle came, the Battle of Camlann, and treachery tore the fellowship of the Round Table apart. In the vicious fight, Arthur faced his treacherous nephew, Mordred. Though the king was victorious, he was terribly wounded in the process. He had lost my magical scabbard long before in a moment of carelessness, and without its protection, his wounds would not heal. As he lay dying on the battlefield, he knew that my magic was far too great to be left in the world of men, where it could be misused by someone with a greedy or cruel heart. He gave his last command to one of his most trusted knights, Sir Bedivere. 'Take Excalibur,' he whispered, his voice weak, 'and throw it back into the lake.' Twice, Sir Bedivere went to the shore, but he could not bring himself to throw away such a magnificent, legendary sword. He hid me and lied to his king. But Arthur knew. The third time, filled with sorrow, Bedivere obeyed. He hurled me with all his might. I flew in a gleaming arc over the water, and just before I hit the surface, the hand of the Lady of the Lake rose once more to catch me, drawing me back into the misty depths to wait.
I sleep now in the cool, silent heart of the lake, but my story never ended. It was told around crackling campfires and sung by bards in the great halls of castles. It was written down in great books, ensuring that the tale of Camelot would never be forgotten. One of the most famous tellings is in a book by Sir Thomas Malory called 'Le Morte d'Arthur,' which was finished around the year 1470 and first printed on July 31st, 1485. The myth of Excalibur teaches us that true strength isn't just about power, but about the wisdom and responsibility that must come with it. It is a story about justice, hope, and the promise of a great leader returning when they are needed most. Today, my story continues to inspire people everywhere. You can see reflections of me in movies, books, and games about heroes who fight for what is right. The legend of Excalibur reminds us all to be brave, to lead with kindness, and to believe that even in dark times, there is always hope for a better, more just world.
