Just want Penelope?
In a sunny palace by a sparkling blue sea lived a kind queen named Penelope. Her brave husband, King Odysseus, sailed away on a big, big adventure a long time ago, and she waited for him to come home. This is the story of her long, long wait, a famous tale from The Odyssey.
While Penelope waited, some loud, noisy men came to her home. They said she had to pick a new king. But Penelope's heart was waiting for Odysseus. So, she thought of a very clever plan. She told them, 'I will choose a new king when I finish weaving this special blanket.' Every day, she sat and weaved beautiful colors. Swish, swoosh went the threads, making a lovely pattern. The blanket got bigger and bigger. But every night, when the big moon was shining, Penelope would sneak to her blanket. She would secretly pull out all the threads she had woven that day. Plink, plonk, went the threads. The blanket was never, ever finished. This was her clever secret for waiting.
After many sunny days and starry nights of weaving and un-weaving, a traveler came to the palace. He looked very tired, but his eyes looked kind and familiar. It was him. It was Odysseus, home at last. Penelope's heart felt full of sunshine and joy. They were together again, and their home was filled with happy sounds. Her story shows us that even when waiting is hard, having hope and a clever mind can help. It reminds everyone that love is strong, and a clever idea is a wonderful gift.
