The story

The Fox and the Tiger

In a warm, green jungle with very tall trees lived a little fox. His fur was the color of autumn leaves, and his tail was a big, fluffy brush. Living in the jungle was fun, but sometimes a huge, stripey tiger was looking for his lunch! This is the story of The Fox and the Tiger, and how a little fox can be very, very clever.

One sunny day, the little fox was trotting through the green ferns. Suddenly—ROAR!—the biggest tiger he had ever seen jumped right in front of him. The tiger licked his lips and said, "You look like a tasty snack!" The fox's heart went thump-thump-thump, like a little drum. But the fox puffed out his chest and said in a big voice, "You can’t eat me! I am the King of the Forest!" The tiger blinked his big yellow eyes. "You?" he laughed. "You are so small!" The clever fox said, "I am! If you don’t believe me, just walk behind me and see." The tiger was curious, so he followed the little fox. They walked and walked. Soon, a monkey saw them and ran up a tree. A little rabbit saw them and hopped away fast. All the animals saw the big tiger behind the fox and ran away! The tiger didn't know they were scared of him, not the little fox.

The tiger was so surprised. He really believed all the animals were afraid of the tiny fox! He bowed his head and said, "I am sorry, O King," and then he ran away into the jungle. The little fox giggled a happy giggle. He was safe! He scampered all the way back to his cozy den. This story shows that being clever can be even better than being big and strong. Using your brain is a very special superpower.
