The story

Yu and the Great Flood

A long, long time ago, there was a kind man named Yu. He lived in a happy land, but there was a big, big problem. There was water, water everywhere. Splash, splash, splash. The big rivers were overflowing, covering all the houses and gardens. Everything was wet and soggy, and all the people were sad. This is the story of how Yu helped tame the Great Flood.

Yu had a very clever idea. The water needed a path to go to the big sea. So Yu got his big shovel and started to dig. Dig, dig, dig went his shovel. He worked all day and all night. He dug many little rivers for the big water to follow. The little rivers were like tiny roads just for the water. Swish, swoosh, sploosh. The water happily followed the new paths away from the homes. Yu worked so hard because he wanted to see his friends smile in their warm, dry houses. He never, ever gave up.

Then, one sunny day, the big flood was gone. The water was back in the rivers, flowing nicely to the big, big sea. The land was warm and dry again. Flowers could grow, and children could play outside. Everyone cheered for Yu. Hooray for Yu. He saved their homes. Because Yu was so smart and kind, he became a great leader called Yu the Great. His story shows us that even a big, splashy problem can be fixed when we work together and have a clever plan.
