Just want Yu the Great?
My name is Yu, and I remember a time when the whole world seemed to be made of water. In the lands that would one day be called China, the great rivers, especially the mighty Yellow River, had burst their banks and refused to return. For two whole generations, the water covered the fields, washed away homes, and left our people huddled on the highest hilltops, hungry and afraid. The air was always damp, and the only sound was the constant, angry roar of the flood. My father, Gun, was a good man who tried his best to stop the water. He built huge walls of earth to block it, but the flood was like a powerful beast; it just grew angrier and smashed his walls to pieces. It was a time of deep sadness for everyone. After my father failed, our wise Emperor Shun looked at me and saw a different kind of strength. He asked me to try where my father could not succeed. This is the story of how I tamed the waters, the myth of Yu the Great.
I knew I could not fight the water head-on. Instead of trying to block it, I decided to understand it and guide it. I traveled all across the nine provinces of our land, studying the flow of the water and the shape of the earth. For thirteen years, I walked the muddy plains and climbed the misty mountains, carrying my tools and charting a new path for the rivers. My plan was to dig great channels, like new roads for the water, that would lead the flood all the way to the ocean. It was incredibly hard work. My hands became rough and calloused, and my skin was weathered by the sun and rain. I worked alongside the people, digging and clearing the way. I was so focused on my task that three times I passed by the door of my own home. I heard my wife's voice and my young son calling for me, and my heart ached to stop, but I knew that if I did, thousands of other families would never be safe. I had to keep going. Can you imagine being so dedicated to a job that you wouldn't even stop to say hello to your own family? I was not entirely alone on my quest. A magnificent yellow dragon, a creature of the sky and rivers, came to my aid. It would fly ahead of us, dragging its long, powerful tail across the ground to show me exactly where the new river channels should be dug. From the depths of the water, a giant black turtle emerged, carrying on its back a special, magical soil called Xirang. This soil could grow and expand all by itself, which we used to build strong, lasting banks for our new waterways. Together, with my human companions and these magical creatures, we reshaped the very land itself.

A New Beginning After thirteen long years of tireless work, the day finally came when the last channel was dug. The floodwaters, which had been a raging monster, now flowed peacefully down the new paths we had made, all the way to the great eastern sea. The land began to dry, and rich, fertile soil appeared where there had once been only muddy water. Our people came down from the hills, cheering with joy. They could finally plant their crops, rebuild their villages, and live without fear. Because I had saved them, the people made me their new emperor, and I founded the Xia Dynasty, the very first in China's long history. My story has been told for thousands of years, a reminder that even the biggest challenges can be overcome with perseverance, clever thinking, and working together for the good of everyone. It teaches that true leadership is not about power, but about service and sacrifice. Even today, when engineers build incredible dams and bridges, they are following in my footsteps. The myth of Yu the Great continues to inspire people to face their own floods, whatever they may be, with courage and hope.
