The story

A Club for Science

Hello! We are the Royal Society of London. We are a special group, like a club, for people called scientists. Scientists love to learn new things about the world. They ask big questions and do fun experiments to find the answers. Our job is to help these scientists learn and share what they discover.

We started our club a very, very long time ago. We began our work in a big city called London. A king, King Charles II, said we could be a special group for science. He gave us permission to meet and share our ideas. It was very exciting! Soon, many famous scientists wanted to join us. A scientist named Isaac Newton joined our club. He and other members did many experiments. They learned so much about how the world works. They shared all of their new ideas with each other. Sharing helps everyone learn more and more.

We are still here today, helping scientists learn. We help them make amazing new discoveries about our world. They study big things, like the stars and planets in space. They also study very tiny things, like the germs that can make you sick. After they learn something new, we help share it. We put their work in books and online so everyone can learn from it. We believe that sharing science helps make the world a better place for all of us.
