The story

We Are the Baka People

Hello! We are the Baka people. We live in a big, beautiful rainforest in Africa. Our home is full of tall trees that reach for the sun and pretty, bright flowers. Lots of different animals live here with us. When we need a place to rest, we build our own cozy houses for our families. We use strong branches for the frame and cover it with large, green leaves we find on the forest floor. Our homes keep us safe and warm.

We love to make music! Singing and dancing are parts of our everyday life. We sing special songs that sound like the birds who live in the trees above us. Everyone joins in, clapping their hands to make a happy beat. We dance together, too! Sometimes, we go to the river and gently drum on the water. The splashes make a fun rhythm for our songs. All of our family members, from the youngest to the oldest, love to sing and play.

The forest is our friend, and it gives us everything we need. We know where to look for sweet fruits to eat and how to find yummy honey made by bees. The forest also helps us feel better when we are sick. We know which special plants can be used as medicine to help our bodies heal. The forest gives us food, medicine, and a place to call home.

We are the Baka people, and the rainforest is our home. We love living here, singing our songs, and taking care of the forest that takes care of us. It is a wonderful place to live and grow with our families.
