Hello! We are the Pueblo Peoples. Our name comes from our special villages, which are called pueblos. We are made up of many different and unique communities that have lived in the Southwestern United States for a very long time. In fact, our ancestors have been here for thousands of years. Some of our communities you might hear about are the Hopi, the Zuni, and the people of Acoma and Taos. Each of our communities has its own special traditions, but we share a long and important history in this land.
Our homes are famous because they are so special. We build our villages using a material called adobe. To make adobe, we mix mud and straw together and let the sun dry it into strong bricks. Our houses are often built very close together, one on top of the other, rising up toward the sky. They can look like apartment buildings that are several stories high. Instead of stairs inside, we often used ladders to climb up to the higher floors from the outside. This way of building helped us create strong, safe communities where many families could live together.
Living in a dry land means we had to become very skilled farmers. We learned how to grow important foods that have fed our families for generations. Our main crops are corn, beans, and squash. Taking care of our crops was a very important part of our life, and it still is for many of us. We learned how to work with the land to provide for our communities. Art and our traditions are also at the heart of our culture. We are known for making beautiful pottery, and each piece is carefully decorated with special designs that can tell a story or show something important to us. We also weave soft blankets from cotton.

Our culture is passed down through the generations in many ways. Our elders share stories that teach the younger people about our history and our traditions, helping us remember who we are and where we come from. Today, we, the Pueblo Peoples, are still here. Our communities are active and strong. Many of us still live in the same ancestral villages that our families have called home for centuries. We work hard to keep our culture alive for our children and grandchildren. We do this through our special dances, our traditional songs, and important ceremonies. While we honor our past and keep our traditions strong, we also live modern lives, just like people everywhere.
