Just want Alhambra?
I sit high on a hill in a city called Granada, in the country of Spain. My walls glow a warm, reddish color, which is why my name in Arabic means 'The Red One.' Inside, my walls are covered in colorful tiles that look like puzzle pieces, and water whispers in my fountains and pools. I have cool, shady courtyards where kings and queens once walked, smelling the sweet orange blossoms in the air. Before you knew my name, you might have just called me the beautiful castle on the hill. But I have a special name. I am the Alhambra.
My story began a very, very long time ago. Around the year 889, I was just a small, strong fort, watching over the city below. But my real sparkle came later, in the 13th century. Starting around the year 1238, special kings called the Nasrid sultans decided to make me their home and their palace. They brought amazing artists and builders to make me beautiful. For over one hundred years, they decorated me with amazing care. They carved my walls with patterns that look like delicate lace and poems you can still read today. They built my famous Court of the Lions, where twelve stone lions stand proudly in a circle, guarding a bubbling fountain. I loved the sounds of music and laughter that filled my halls. Then, on January 2nd, 1492, new rulers arrived, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. They loved me so much they took special care of me, making sure my beauty was protected. A later king, Charles V, even built his own grand palace right beside mine in the 1520s because he wanted to be close to me.

For a while, after all the kings and queens were gone, I grew quiet and sleepy. Some of my beautiful rooms were forgotten, and dust settled in my courtyards. But then, in the 1830s, a writer from America named Washington Irving came to live with me. He listened to my quiet whispers and explored my secret corners. He wrote a famous book called 'Tales of the Alhambra,' which was published in 1832. His book shared my magical stories with the whole world. People read about my lacy walls and lion fountain and wanted to see me for themselves. They started visiting me again. Today, I am a palace for everyone. Families from all over the world walk through my gardens, listen to my fountains, and gaze at my ceilings that look like starry nights. I love sharing my history and showing how different people and cultures created something so beautiful together. I am a reminder that beauty can last forever and connect us all.
