Białowieża Forest

Shhh. Can you hear my leaves whisper secrets to the wind? I am a big, cozy blanket of green trees that stretches across two countries called Poland and Belarus. My trees are so tall they tickle the clouds, and my floor is a soft carpet of moss. When the sun peeks through my leaves, it makes sparkly patterns on the ground for you to dance in. Big, fluffy animals with horns, called bison, live here and munch on my yummy grass. I am the Białowieża Forest, and I am one of the oldest forests in the whole world.

I have been here for a long, long time, even before people built castles or roads. A long time ago, starting in the 1400s, kings and queens loved to visit me. They would ride their horses on my paths to see all my amazing animals. They knew I was a very special place. As time went on, people wanted to make sure I would always be a safe home. So, on a happy day in the year 1921, they turned a part of me into a special park. This meant no one could ever cut down my oldest trees, and all my animal friends would have a safe place to play forever.

Today, I am a happy home for my gentle bison, sneaky wolves, and birds that sing the prettiest songs. Families come from all over the world to walk on my quiet paths. They breathe in my fresh, clean air and listen to my leaves rustle in the wind. I love when children visit and look up at my tall trees with wide, wondering eyes. I am a living treasure, here to show everyone how wonderful nature is and to remind you to always be kind to our beautiful planet.
