Have you ever seen a giant, sleeping dragon. I am so big that my spine is made of tall, snowy mountains, and my long tail is made of rivers that wiggle across the land. In my green bamboo forests, fluffy giant pandas munch on leaves all day long. In my cities, millions of lights twinkle like stars in the night sky. I have been here for a very, very long time, and I have so many stories to tell you. I am the great country of China.

Once, my people lived in many different kingdoms. But around the year 221 BCE, a strong emperor named Qin Shi Huang decided we should all be one big family. He brought everyone together and became the very first emperor of a united China. To keep our new family safe from anyone who might bother us, he had a brilliant idea. He said, 'Let's build a wall so long and strong that it will protect us all.'. And so, my people began building the Great Wall. Over hundreds and hundreds of years, many different families and rulers helped make it longer and stronger. During a time called the Ming Dynasty, which started in the year 1368 CE, workers made the wall the giant stone dragon you can still see today.

My people have always been full of clever ideas. One of the best ideas came from a man named Cai Lun around the year 105 CE. He invented paper. Before paper, people wrote on heavy bamboo or expensive silk. But Cai Lun's paper made it easy for everyone to write down their thoughts, share stories, and draw beautiful pictures. Another wonderful thing was a famous trail that started around 130 BCE. It was called the Silk Road. It wasn't a road for cars, but a path for brave travelers on camels. They carried my soft, shiny silk to faraway lands and brought back sparkling jewels, new spices, and delicious foods that my people had never tasted before. It was how I shared my treasures with the world and learned about theirs.

Deep in my capital city, Beijing, there is a secret place that was once just for my emperors and their families. It's called the Forbidden City. Its construction began in the year 1406 CE, and it has hundreds of beautiful buildings with golden roofs that shine in the sun. But today, I am not just a land of ancient palaces. If you visit me now, you can ride on super-fast trains that zip across the land like silver bullets. You can see shiny skyscrapers that reach for the clouds. I am a place where ancient dragons and modern rockets live together. My stories and inventions are for everyone, and I hope you will come and explore them one day.
