Egypt

I am a land where a long, winding river flows through golden sands. The sun warms my stones, and palm trees sway in the breeze. For thousands of years, I have watched stars glitter in my clear night sky. People built incredible stone triangles that reach for the sun, and a giant statue of a lion with a human head guards them. I am Egypt.

Long, long ago, around the year 3100 BCE, my people in the north and south joined together to become one big family. They built their homes and farms along my wonderful Nile River. The river was their best friend, giving them water for drinking and rich, dark soil for growing delicious food. The kings and queens, who were called pharaohs, wanted to be remembered forever. So, they built amazing tombs. Around 2560 BCE, my people finished building the Great Pyramid of Giza for a pharaoh named Khufu. It was made from millions of giant stone blocks, and they put them all together without any of the big machines we have today. Can you imagine that.

My people also invented a beautiful way of writing with pictures called hieroglyphics. They carved their stories onto the walls of my temples and tombs so that their memories would last forever. One of my most famous pharaohs was a young king named Tutankhamun, who lived around 1332 BCE. For thousands of years, his tomb was hidden deep under the sand, a secret from the world. But then, on November 4th, 1922, a team of explorers found it. Inside, they discovered glittering gold treasures and amazing artifacts that told the story of the young king's life. It was like opening a secret treasure chest from the past.

My story didn't stop with the pharaohs. I watched clever engineers build the Suez Canal, which opened on November 17th, 1869. It created a special shortcut waterway for big ships to travel between two giant seas. Today, my cities like Cairo are filled with busy markets, wonderful smells of food, and the happy sounds of music. People from all over the world still visit me. They come to see my giant pyramids, sail on my calm river, and listen to the stories I have been telling for thousands of years. I love sharing my wonders, because I want to remind everyone that the past is a beautiful story that connects us all.
