Just want Himeji Castle?
I am big and white, and I sparkle in the sun. I sit on a green, grassy hill in a country called Japan. My many roofs look like the wings of a big, beautiful bird getting ready to fly. Flap, flap, flap. People see me and think I look like a graceful white bird called a heron. They call me the White Heron Castle, but my real name is Himeji Castle. I am very old and very beautiful.
My story started a long, long time ago. A brave samurai built a small fort right here on my hill. That was way back in the year 1333. I was just a little fort then. But many years later, a great leader made me into the big, strong castle I am today. He gave me strong stone walls, like a big hug to keep everyone safe inside. He also made my halls and paths like a tricky maze. It was a fun puzzle to keep friendly people safe from harm.
Now, my strong walls don't hide soldiers anymore. My big gates are open for everyone to visit. Families and friends come to walk through my pretty gardens and look up at my tall, tall towers. I love to feel the sunshine and hear children laugh. I am here to share my beauty and my stories with you. I hope I can stand tall and bright for many more years, waiting for you to come and say hello.
