The story

I Am Active Listening

Hello, I'm Active Listening. I am like a special kind of superpower that you use with your ears and your heart. When you use me, you help your friends and family know that you really understand what they are saying and how they are feeling. Being a great friend starts with me.

I can help in many situations. One time, I helped a boy whose friend was very sad because his favorite drawing of a rocket ship had a big rip in it. Instead of just talking, I helped the boy listen carefully. He looked right at his sad friend, nodded his head to show he was paying attention, and said, "That sounds really upsetting." Because of me, the sad friend felt understood and a little bit better because he knew someone cared about his feelings.

I am a skill that grows stronger every time you use me. When you really listen, you give a gift to your friends and family that shows them they matter. Learning to listen with your whole heart helps you build friendships that are strong and kind.
