A Story About Disappointment
Hi there. Have you ever felt that heavy, sinking feeling in your stomach when something you really wanted didn't happen? That’s me. My name is Disappointment. I show up when your team loses the big game on the 2nd Saturday of the month, or when the ice cream shop runs out of your favorite flavor. I am the feeling you get when a promise is broken or a plan gets canceled. It’s okay to feel me—everyone does. I’m here to talk about what it’s like when I visit.
When I first arrive, I can make you feel pretty sad or frustrated. But my job isn't just to make you feel bad. After you've had a moment to feel me, I help you learn what truly matters to you. Maybe not making the soccer team on the 12th of September shows you how much you love to play, so you practice even harder for the next tryout. Or maybe a friend letting you down teaches you about who you can really count on. I help you build a special kind of strength called resilience. Learning to handle me helps you become stronger, more creative, and ready for whatever comes next. I continue to help people today by showing them how to grow from their experiences.
