I Am Jealousy

Hello. My name is Jealousy. I am a feeling that visits when you see someone has something that you really, really want. I can feel like a tight, grumpy feeling in your tummy.

I might show up at the playground. Maybe your best friend is playing with someone new and you feel left out. Your face might get warm and you might want to stomp your feet. That’s me, visiting to show you that you care about your friend a lot.

When I visit, you can take a big, deep breath, just like blowing out birthday candles. You can also use your words and tell a grown-up, “I feel jealous.” Finding a different fun toy or asking to join the game can help me shrink and go away.

It’s okay when I visit. Everyone feels me sometimes. I am just a feeling that comes and goes. I help you learn what is important to you, like your friends and your favorite toys.
