I Am Making Friends
Hello. I am the special, warm feeling you get when you connect with someone new. You can call me Making Friends. At first, I can feel a little bit like butterflies fluttering in your tummy, especially when you are a shy child meeting someone for the first time. But I promise that fluttery feeling quickly turns into happiness and a lot of fun. I show up in places you know well, like at school during recess or at the park on a sunny afternoon. You can find me in simple moments, like when you share a toy with a new student or offer a kind smile to someone sitting alone. I also appear when you bravely ask someone their name. I am the very beginning of every great friendship, the first happy moment that leads to many more.
It is not hard to meet me, and it always starts with a small, brave step. My journey begins when you see someone new, perhaps a child who just joined your class or someone who looks lonely on the playground. You might feel a little nudge inside you that wants to say 'hello.' That little nudge is me, hoping you will listen. You can invite me to join you by simply asking to join a game or sharing your box of crayons when someone needs a color you have. Giving a compliment, like saying, 'I like your drawing,' is another wonderful way to welcome me in. These small acts of kindness are how I grow. They help you and another person go from being strangers to becoming playmates. Once I am there, you will find yourselves laughing and having fun together.
I am always here, waiting to be found in every new classroom and every sunny day at the park. I am still learning that it just takes one person to be brave and kind to get me started. My story matters because everyone needs a friend, and I am the bridge that connects people. Remember, a simple hello can be the start of a wonderful friendship.
