My Brain's Favorite Break

Sometimes, I notice the world feels loud and busy, like after a long day at school or during a noisy family get-together. When that happens, I take Quiet Time, which is a special break I can give my brain to help it rest and recharge. It isn't about being bored. For me, it’s about choosing to be in a calm, peaceful space for a little while. I find this helps my mind untangle its thoughts and lets me feel more relaxed and in control of everything.

Here is how I create my own quiet bubble. First, I find a cozy spot where I won't be interrupted, like a corner of my room with some comfy pillows or my favorite chair. The next step is to put away any distractions. For me, this means turning off the TV, video games, or my tablet so I can focus. Then, I choose one calm activity to do, like reading a book, drawing a picture, building with my LEGOs quietly, or just closing my eyes and listening to the sounds around me. I find it helps to set a timer for 10 or 15 minutes. This way, my brain knows it has a dedicated time to relax without me worrying about what’s next.

I think of taking Quiet Time as charging a battery for my brain. When I give my mind a rest, I can focus much better on my homework or listen more carefully to a friend's story later. It also gives me a moment to check in with my feelings and understand why I might feel happy, sad, or frustrated. This special time helps me handle big emotions when they come up. It gives me the energy I need for all the fun and important things I do every day.
