The story

Arthur C. Clarke: A Dreamer of Stars

Hello! My name is Arthur. A long time ago, in the year 1917, I was born in a place called England. When I was a little boy, I loved to look up at the night sky. I made a pretend telescope from cardboard tubes to see the big, bright moon and the twinkling stars. I dreamed of traveling to space and visiting other planets. The stars looked like shiny diamonds on a big, dark blanket, and I wanted to learn all about them.

When I grew up, I had a very big idea. In the year 1945, I thought about putting special things called satellites way up in space. These satellites would work like giant mirrors in the sky. They could bounce messages all around the world. This would help people talk on the phone or watch TV with friends who lived far away. I also wrote many stories about my ideas. I wrote about living on the moon, taking trips to other planets, and having friendly computers. I loved to think about what the future would be like.

My big idea about satellites came true. People built them, and now they help us talk to people and learn new things all over the world. I also loved exploring deep down in the ocean. I lived to be 90 years old, and my life ended in the year 2008. I spent my life dreaming and thinking about the future. People remember me for my stories and my ideas that helped connect our world. I hope when you look up at the stars, you will dream big dreams, too.
