B.F. Skinner

Hello! My name is B.F. Skinner, but you can call me Fred. I was born a long time ago, in the year 1904. When I was a little boy, I was very curious. That means I loved to ask questions! I liked to watch animals and see how they learned to do new things. I wanted to understand why we all do the things we do, and I knew that watching and learning could help me find the answers.

To help me learn, I built a special little room for animals. Some people called it a 'Skinner box.' Inside, there was a little button for them to push. I watched as my animal friends, like pigeons and rats, explored the box. When they accidentally pushed the button, a yummy treat would pop out! It was a fun surprise for them. Soon, they learned that pushing the button meant getting a snack. They learned a new trick all by themselves, and I was so happy to see how smart they were.

I discovered something very important from my little box. When you get a nice reward for doing something, you want to do it again! It's the same for you. When you get a sticker for cleaning your room, it makes you want to keep your room tidy. My ideas have helped many people learn new and helpful things. I lived to be 86 years old and passed away in the year 1990. I'm happy my work still helps us understand how we all learn and grow.
