B. R. Ambedkar

Hello! My name is Bhimrao, but many people called me Babasaheb. I was born in the year 1891. When I was a little boy, I loved to read books. Books were like my best friends. They were full of wonderful stories and big ideas. Reading my books taught me so many new things about the world, and I wanted to learn all I could.

When I went to school, some people were not very kind. They would not let me sit with them in the classroom. They would not let me drink water from the same tap. This was because my family was from a group called Dalits. This felt very unfair, and it made me feel sad. But it also gave me a big, important idea: everyone should be treated with kindness and respect, no matter who they are or where they come from.

I used my love of learning to help my whole country, India. Because I read so many books, I had many ideas to make things better. I helped write a very important book of rules for my country. This book is called the Constitution. In the year 1950, it became a promise to everyone in India that they would be treated fairly. The rules made sure all children could go to school and that everyone had a chance to follow their dreams.

I lived to be 65 years old, and I spent my life working so that everyone could be friends and feel important. Today, people in India remember me for helping to write the rules of fairness that still help everyone live together happily.
