Just want Brahmagupta?
Hello! My name is Brahmagupta. A very long time ago in India, I was a little boy who loved two things more than anything: numbers and stars! I would look up at the big, sparkly night sky and wonder about the moon and the planets. I also loved to count everything I saw, from the pretty flowers in a field to the birds flying in a tree.
I thought a lot about a very special number: zero! The number zero means 'nothing.' If you have two yummy mangoes and you eat them both, how many mangoes are left? Zero! Before my time, people did not know what to do with zero. I showed everyone that zero was a real number, and a very helpful one. I wrote down rules for how to add and subtract with zero, which helped everyone understand numbers a little bit better.
I lived a long and happy life filled with numbers and stars. My ideas about the number zero traveled all over the world! Today, when you count, use a computer, or look at a calendar, you are using my ideas. My love for numbers is still helping people learn and discover new things every single day.
