Just want Carl Linnaeus?
Hello. My name is Carl. A long, long time ago, in the year 1707, I was born in a beautiful country called Sweden. When I was a little boy, I loved flowers more than anything. I had my very own garden, and I spent my time looking at the colorful petals and green leaves. My family even gave me a special nickname, 'the little botanist,' which is a fancy word for a plant expert.
As I grew up, I noticed something messy. People had all sorts of long, confusing names for plants and animals. It was like calling a cat a 'fluffy, four-legged, pointy-eared mouse-chaser'. So, I had a big idea. In the year 1735, I decided to give every living thing a special two-part name, like a first and last name. This made it super easy for everyone in the whole world to know exactly which flower or bug they were talking about. It was like organizing a giant, messy toy box.
My idea helped scientists organize all of nature into one big, happy family tree. I wrote many books to share my ideas with everyone. I lived to be 70 years old and passed away in the year 1778. I spent my whole life exploring and naming the amazing plants and animals in our world. Today, people still use my special naming system to understand and protect all the wonderful creatures on our planet.
