The story

King Christian IV: The Builder King

Hello. My name is Christian IV. A long, long time ago, in the year 1577, I was born. When I grew up, I became the king of a beautiful country called Denmark. Being a king was a very big job. It meant I got to help lead my whole country. I loved my home and all the people who lived there. I wanted to make Denmark the very best place it could be for everyone.

Do you want to know my favorite thing to do? I loved to build. Building was my favorite hobby. It made me so happy to create amazing new buildings for my kingdom. I would tell my workers to get lots of bricks and stones so we could start. We built beautiful castles with big, green gardens where people could walk and play. I also built tall, round towers. They were so tall they seemed to reach for the sky. It was so much fun to watch them go up, brick by brick, until a whole new building was standing tall and strong for everyone to see.

I lived a long, long time ago, but the special buildings I made are still standing today. You can still visit my castles and my tall towers in Denmark. When you see them, you can imagine what it was like when I was the king. I lived to be 70 years old. People remember me as the king who loved to build. I helped fill my country with wonderful, beautiful places that everyone can still enjoy.
