Just want Christian IV of Denmark?
Hello! My name is Christian, and I was a king. I was the king of two wonderful countries, Denmark and Norway, for a very, very long time. I was born on April 12th, 1577, at a beautiful castle called Frederiksborg. Can you believe I became king when I was only 11 years old? That was in the year 1588. Of course, I was too young to rule all by myself, so my mother and wise advisors helped me until I was old enough to take charge.
My favorite thing to do was build! I loved creating new cities and magnificent buildings that everyone could enjoy. I helped build a special part of my capital city, Copenhagen, called Christianshavn, with lovely canals just like in other big European cities. I also built a fantastic castle called Rosenborg, where I loved to spend my time. One of my most famous projects is the Round Tower, or 'Rundetårn.' Instead of stairs, it has a long, winding ramp all the way to the top so a horse and carriage could ride up! I wanted my kingdom to be beautiful and full of amazing sights.
Being a king wasn't just about building castles. I also worked hard to make my kingdom strong and safe. I built a powerful navy with lots of ships to protect our coasts and to help our merchants trade with faraway lands. Sometimes, I had to be a warrior king to protect my people and our lands. It was very important to me that Denmark and Norway were respected and prosperous. I always wanted the best for my people.
I was king for almost 60 years, one of the longest reigns in all of Europe! I lived to be 70 years old. Even though my life ended in 1648, you can still see my work today. If you ever visit Copenhagen, you can climb the Round Tower I built, walk through the gardens of Rosenborg Castle, and see the beautiful buildings I created. I am remembered as the 'Builder King' because I filled my kingdom with treasures that still stand tall.
