Hello! My name is Christian, and for a very long time, I was the king of two wonderful countries, Denmark and Norway. I was born on April 12th, 1577, at the beautiful Frederiksborg Palace. My father was King Frederick II and my mother was Queen Sophie. When I was only 11 years old, in 1588, my father passed away, which meant I became the new king. That is a very big job for a young boy! Because I was so young, a group of wise advisors helped me rule the kingdom. I learned from them for several years until I was old enough to take full charge myself in 1596. I was so excited to finally lead my people and had many big dreams for our future.
I loved architecture and building things more than anything else! I dreamed of a kingdom filled with magnificent buildings and well-planned cities, which is why people gave me the nickname the 'Builder King.' I helped design and build many famous places that you can still visit today. I had Rosenborg Castle built as a summer home, and after a fire, I rebuilt my birthplace, Frederiksborg Palace, to make it even grander than before. In 1624, I founded a new city called Christiania, which you now know as Oslo, the capital of Norway. I also built the famous Round Tower in Copenhagen, which gave astronomers a perfect place to study the stars. I believed that beautiful cities made people proud and that strong trade made a kingdom wealthy, so in 1616, I started the Danish East India Company to trade with faraway lands.
Being a king wasn't just about building, though. It also meant I had to be a leader for my people in times of war. Early in my time as king, from 1611 to 1613, we fought the Kalmar War against our neighbors in Sweden, and we were successful. A few years later, a much bigger war began in Europe, called the Thirty Years' War. In 1625, I decided that Denmark should join the war to help other Protestant kingdoms. It was a very difficult and costly war for my country. I was a soldier myself and even fought in battles to protect my kingdom. During one sea battle in 1644, I was badly injured and lost the sight in my right eye. It was a scary time, but a king must be brave for his people.

I reigned as king for 59 years, which is one of the longest reigns in the history of Europe. I lived to be 70 years old and spent my final days in my beloved Rosenborg Castle, passing away in 1648. Even though my time as king had its challenges with difficult wars, I am so proud of what I left behind. Today, people remember me as the Builder King. When they visit the castles, towers, and city districts I created, they are seeing the dreams I had for my kingdom brought to life, standing strong hundreds of years later.
